We were originally formed as a Delaware limited liability company in July 2007
and commenced operations in August 2007. In February 2019, we elected to be
taxed as a corporation for U.S. federal income tax purposes effective as
of January 1, 2019, and we elected to be treated as a REIT for U.S. federal
income tax purposes commencing with our taxable year ended December 31, 2019. We
believe that we are organized and operate so that we qualify to be treated as a
REIT for U.S. federal income tax purposes.
We acquire and manage mortgage-related, consumer-related, corporate-related, and
other financial assets. Our primary objective is to generate attractive,
risk-adjusted total returns for our stockholders by making investments that we
believe compensate us appropriately for the risks associated with them. We seek
to attain this objective by utilizing an opportunistic strategy. Our targeted
asset classes currently include investments in the U.S.
